May 2010YAL Round 1
A very good start to the first round, by
all the Spartan Athletes. Two buses travelled to Antrim Forum
with strong teams and even with a few cry offs the Spartans
showed why they are Northern Ireland Champions for the last
three years.
The day started with the short hurdle races where the club
showed their strength in depth by winning the boys U15 &
U17 races. This was followed by the longer hurdles where Andrew
Bolster on his first outing at this distance (400m Hurdles)
destroyed the field with an unofficial time of 60.4sec.
Later in the day Claire Dougherty U15 broke the YAL Record
with a winning jump of 1.60m . Great start to the season for
Claire. Tamara Boyle & Rebecca Mc Laughlin (U17) ran a
great 300m with both girls winning their races. Another great
performance was Roisin Laverty winning the Long Jump with
a new PB 5.04m. More success from Anna Barr (U17) 100m &
TJ (10.64m) and a great race from Amy Jackson (U15) to win
her first 1500m race on the track. Mark Mc Garvey & Ryan
Mc Parland gave a great account of themself during the day
by picking up valuable points for the team and winning their
events.
Earlier in the morning the Hammer throwers did great with
some pb from Calum Imrie(U15) and Lisa Dobbins (u17) and Aine
Harkin (U15).
nces.
Our u13 team were just brilliant as it was their first time
to compete for the club. Well done to all the athletes on
Saturday and we are looking forward to seeing how the team
scored after all these great performa
More news from the London Mini Marathon where Aoife Laverty
was representing Northern Ireland and finished first girl
