July 2010Johnston and Crossan
win Furey Series
The final race in the 2010 Furey Insurances
Series took place tonight on a wet Ballineska circuit but
the weather didn't deter some 140 hardy souls. Richard Johnston
led the way to win by some 9 seconds over his rival Scott
Rankin with Emmet McGinty in 3rd. This win gave Johnston the
overall series title for 2010. Helena Crossan likewise won
the women's race and in doing so won the series ahead of Gemma
Turley. The final race was kindly sponsored by Donnelly and
Taggart Motors. . Photos taken by Bernie here.
Thanks to all the race sponsors, to all who helped out in
any way and to all the runners who made this the most successful
series to date. Eoghan. ps: Any errors in the results please

Johnston Outguns the Opposition to Claim
Furey Insurances 5K Series Honours
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There may have been a wet and windy finale to the 2010 Furey
Insurances 5K Series on the Baliniska circuit last Wednesday
evening but another big entry of 150 runners braved the elements
and treated the watching crowds to a thoroughly entertaining
and exciting contest.
The upfront mens race witnessed yet another tense duel between
Richard Johnston and Scott Rankin who continued their domination
of the Series, with a head to head battle won in the end by
the red vested Johnston whose 15m 47s finish time saw him
home clear of the tenacious Foyle Valley mans 15m 56s with
Emmet McGinty taking third on 16m dead.
Johnston,s win was his third in the six race Series and gave
him the added award of Overall Series champion with Rankin
deservedly taking the runners up prize. Both men were worthy
award winners, their regular duels adding much spice to the
Series and showcasing two emerging young road race talents.
The ultra consistent Innishowen athlete Helena Crossan posted
another individual womens race victory with an 18m 26s clocking
to finish just ahead of City of Derry Master Anne Paul, back
after injury with an 18m 37s run and Springwells Gemma Turley
was next on 19m 23s. Crossan also took the womens overall
crown ahead of Turley to reinforce her dominance.

AGE GRADED CORRECTION
Unfortunately in the hurry to get results
out last night I (Eoghan) made a mistake in my calculations
of the age graded and Joe and Peter should be the other way
around with Peter just edging out Joe by 5 seconds. The womens
was also tight but the results remain with Bridgeen 1st and
Jackie 2nd.. Sincere apologies for the mix up.
Calculations below, age grading is worked out
from the 2006 WMA tables at http://www.howardgrubb.co.uk/athletics/wmalookup06.html
Jackie has the following 19.51 (age 41-bay
road) =19.02 ;19.31(age 41-Lisnagelvin)= 18.43 ;19.12(41-Buncrana)
=18.24 ;19.34(41-culmore) = 18.46 and 19.35(42-ballineska)=
18.38 (Average 18mins 37.75secs) with best 4 age graded
performances to count
Bridgeen has 20.18(bay road)=18.10 ;20.07(lisnagelvin) =18.01
;20.16(buncrana) 18.09 , 20.26(culmore)= 18.18 and 20.37(ballineska)=
18.27 all at 47 years of age (Average 18min 09.5 secs)
Joe McKinney has 15.53(Buncrana age 41) =
14.54 ;16.23 (Culmore age 41) =15.22 ;16.23 (carndonagh aged
42) = 15.15 and 16.09 (ballineska aged 42) = 15.02 Therefore
(Average 15mins and 8 secs)
Peter Lilburn best 4 are 17.54 (bay road)
= 14.54 ;18.23(culmore)= 15.18 ;17.51(buncrana)= 14.52 and
18.09(lisnagelvin)= 15.06 (Average 15mins 2.5 sec
assuming aged 56-younger age)
