Spar Dessie's Run 10k

Sunday the 29th of August is the date for the Spar Dessie's Run 10k which will take place in the Gransha Grounds, Derry. The long established Dessies Run is staged annually by City of Derry Spartans AC in memory of the late Dessie McNulty,a former Sparta AC club captain.

The 10k race moved to the spcacious Western Health and Social Care Trust Gransha Park Grounds, Clooney Rd, a few years ago and offers a practially traffic free,flat parkland,three lap circuit with onsite changing/shower facilities,courtesy of Oakgrove Integrated College.

Club runners,Fun runners and Joggers of all abilities are welcome to this years event on and we are delighted to be a part of the new SPAR 10k Series.

Everythings in place for a great event, interest is building locally from runners preparing for the Waterside Half Marathon(on Sun 12th Sept) which also uses the Dessies Run circuit in the Gransha Grounds and all indications point to a big input of club runners keen to have a go on the fast,lap course.Indeed several Derry and Donegal athletes targetting the National Half Marathon a week later in Carlow will have a blow out on the Gransha course.

Gregory Roberts has confirmed his participation,determined to improve on his runners up spot last year behind Joe McAllister as he builds towards the Dublin Marathon in October. The Ballycotton 10 winner this year, will lead a strong contingent from promoting club,City of Derry Spartans who have targeted success in the four to score Team race. The Womens team race has,nt yet ignited but North West club Inishowen Ac have been prominent all summer in local races and led by the prolific Helena Crossan could be the ones to watch.

Apart from the famous Dessies Run Race T shirts for all participants there is an £1200 Prize Fund on offer,covering all male/female categories from U20 to O70. Spar Goody Bags and generous Post Race Refreshmens are additional attractions at what has long been one of the North Wests top class road races.

Race commentry will be provided by the knowledgable David McKibbin...wear your number on the front please so Davy can name check you as you pass...and the first class facilities at Oakgrove Integrated College will serve as Race HQ and provide Shower/Changing facilities post race.

Race HQ will be open for Entry/Race Pack Collection as follows:
Saturday 28th August between 12noon and 4pm,and Sunday 29th August between 9 30pm and 11 30pm.

NO ENTRIES WILL BE TAKEN AFTER 11:30am on SUNDAY 29th AUGUST!!! You have been warned!!!
