Aoife Wins Ulster Gold And
Books All Ireland Spot For Gransha
Aoife Laverty was the local star of the show at Saturdays
Provincial Juvenile cross country championships in Jordanstown,coming
home an impressive winner of the Girls U14 race and in the
process booked her place for the Nationals,set for the Gransha
grounds in late November.The talented City of Derry teenager
won a very competitive race,setting the standard for her clubmates
who responded brilliantly with Amy Jackson,an excellent 4th,leading
the red vests U16 Girls squad to team silver in their age
group.
Joining Aoife and Amy in Gransha will be the other members
of the Girls U16 team,Tamara Boyle,Fiona Mallett,Jenny O Brien
and Emma Mc Cay plus the three Boys U16 ruunners,Shane Mc
Gowan, Connor Breslin and Quentian Wylie who qualified as
members of the County Derry team which won inter county bronze.
Shane McGowan in 5th overall ran very well,finishing only
three seconds off individual bronze.
Sean Harkin,9th in the Boys U18 race did well and will also
be in the Gransha action next month while in the Boys U14
Matthew Doherty in 13th spot may get a call up as well. On
a day of top class competitive action all the young local
runners performed really well and the Nationals qualifiers
will now focus on assidious preperation for their big day
on home turf, Sunday 28th November next.
Brilliant Primary Schools Cross Country Opener

Friday last at the Sports Complex brought around 240 Primary
School pupils,representing ten different schools to the first
of this years Cross Country League races and in mainly dry
conditions they produced two highly entertaining 1K races,watched
by an excellent turn out of proud teachers,parents and other
family members.
Broadbridge,Hollybush,Holy Family,Long Tower,Model,Oakgrove,St.Annes,St.Eithnes,St.Patricks
and Steelstown all produced runners for the three race League
which boasts new sponsors in Flahavans and the winners on
the day were Caithlin Doherty of Hollybush PS and Ben Mc Carron
of Steelstown PS. Ella Rose Sainsbury of St Patricks and Chloe
Harrigan of Holy Family PS completed the top three Girls race
finishers while in the Boys event it was Mark Mc Closkey of
Steelstown PS and St.Eithnes Bryan Doran who chased the winner
home.
The second round race is at St. Columbs Park on Friday 3rd
December and the final round will be back at the Complex on
Friday 21st January next. The top three Schools in both the
Girls and Boys final League placings plus the top five individual
placers overall will then go on to the NI Finals at Mallusk.
