12th Sept 08City of Derry Spartans Young Athlete's Team represented Northern Ireland at the YAL Aux Finals in Manchester last Saturday at the Sports City Stadium.

The final results

1,Enfield & Haringey ,2 Rugby & Northampton AC, 3 Shaftesbury Barnet H ,
4 Preston Harriers ,5 Gateshead H , 6 Giffnock North , 7 City of Stoke AC,
8 Spartans City of Derry.

Whilst only gaining eighth position, the Spartans came up trumps with 18 medals, with four athletes picking up two medals. There were several personal bests in each age group in this high caliber competition.

Congratulations to all the athletes who competed and obtained personal bests on the day. This was a unique opportunity to experience international standard competition and raise the barriers in relation to their own performances.

22nd August - Well done to Spartan Emmett McGinty who was 3rd in the Brockagh 4 mile Road Race.

18th August - Well done to Spartan Declan Reid on winning the Scott & Gault 10 Mile Road Race in 56.17.

13th August - Level City of Derry Mens Team finished 2nd in tonights 3000m team race in Belfast. Collie 9.05, Pajo 9.40, Decky 9.47. Well done lads.

26th June - Level 1 coaching course will now take place in September 08.

Reminder to all club members to wear their club vests in local competition.

Anyone interested in doing a level 1(Basic) athletics coaching course in Derry let me know(must be over 16). - Grants available from the Sports Council.
