June 08 City Men scrape through
to final.
The
male spartans just about made it through to the final of the
National League Track and Field in Santry on Sunday, the men.s
team finished in the last qualifying spot, 8th place out of
the two pools in Division 1. While credit must be given to those
who did travel to Santry on Sun the team was way below what
it should be. To be brutally honest, we only qualified because
there were only 8 teams who competed in both rounds. The city's
women fared even worse, finishing at the bottom of all the teams
in Division 1. Both squads are a long way off the teams of the
last 2 years that almost gained promotion to the premier division
1.
While
the NI track and field championships did mess up everyone's
schedule, questions must be asked of some of our top senior
athletes who where absent from this competition. It is too much
to ask junior athletes to cover most of the events in a senior
competition. As for someone running over 60 seconds for a men's
4x400m relay leg....Need I say more!!!!! Everyone will be needed
for the final if we are to redeem ourselves!
On
a brighter note some good performances at the competition included
Greg 1500m pb 4.17, Simon Herron TJ 12.82 and HJ, Kevin Carlin's
Steeplechase (Give up the 400s Kevin!!!!), Maggie Donnelly hammer(Guest
for CoD) 46.6m and Discus, Jamie Herron HJ and Georgina Brown
javelin.
Well done to all the rest who travelled down.
