AARON
MOVES INTO LEAD IN 5K SERIES
Aaron Doherty was a comfortable winner of the
second race in the Furey Insurances 5K Series at Lisnagelvin.
The City of Derry athlete moved away from the rest of the field
and at the tape had a 22 seconds margin over Letterkenny’s Ivan
Toner.

Doherty would have broken 16 minutes had he
not stopped several yards short of the line meaning he was officially
timed at one second outside that mark.
Third place went to another Letterkenny athlete,
Kieran Crawford, who recorded 16:27 for the 3.1 mile distance.
Declan McCarthy (16:35), in fourth, was the first M45 with fifth-placer
Colin Loughrey (16:37) the leading M35.
Other category awards went to Martin Gormley
(M40/17:09), Gerry O’Doherty (M50/17:56), Malcolm McCausland
(M55/19:22) and Christy McMonagle (M60/19:50).
John-Paul Williamson (17:44) was the first
Junior man while 15-year-old David Lynch also impressed with
his 18:32 timing.
Triathlete Eimear O’Brien was the impressive
winner of a good quality women’s race in a very creditable 18
minutes 43 seconds. City of Derry’s Olivia McCullagh continued
to improve with a sub 19 minute clocking (18:56) to take the
runner-up spot.

19:03 and was also the first female Master. Other age categories
went to Jackie McMonagle (F35/19:47), Bernie Ryan (F40/21:03,
