Running for Ireland in an indoor international against Wales, Scotland and an University of Wales Select, Boyle scorched to victory in an impressive 7.41 seconds.

Ireland scored maximum points in the event with national record-holder Eilish McSweeney taking second place.

The Ballymena & Antrim athlete expressed satisfaction with the performance after the race.

“To open with a personal best over 60 metres when I’m training really for the 100 metres in Melbourne shows things are going well,” said Boyle.

The Dunloy woman confirmed her well being later in the meeting by anchoring Ireland’s women to victory in the 4 x 200 metres relay.

She also revealed that that her next race will in two weeks time at the Odyssey in the National Irish Indoor Championships where McSweeney’s national mark of 7.37 seconds will no doubt be firmly fixed in her sights.

Paul McKee, running his third race at the distance in eight days, took a hard-earned victory in the 400 metres with a seasonal best of 48.05 seconds.

“I still feel tired after last weekend,” was McKee’s post race-reaction. “I may not run the AAA Championships next weekend after all.”

Elaine McCaffrey was third Northern athlete on the winner’s podium after a gun-to-tape win in the women’s 400 metres with a 47.95 seconds clocking.  Less than 20 minutes later the Abbey athlete also chipped in an excellent leg on the winning relay team.

Other Northern athletes also performed well with second places for Ciaran O’Connell in the 800 metres (1:52.92) and Caolan O’Flanagan in the high jump (2.00m).

City of Derry's Tom Carey had an impressive debut in Irish colours when he finished third in the 110 metres hurdles while David McCarthy was a convincing winner of the junior 1500 metres in a personal best timing of 3 minutes 53 seconds.
