Diarmuid Grant turned the Dessie’s Run 10k at Templemore into a procession after a faultless display of front-running from the 23-year-old student.

Grant who is on vacation from the University of Ulster made the trip home from his Belfast base to coast home in an impressive 31 minutes 28 seconds for the 6.2 mile distance.

Gregory Roberts who spent some time in Australia earlier this year was the first to the front from the gun and led through the first mile marker in 4:54.

Soon after Grant moved effortlessly to the front and remorselessly left the rest of the 129-strong field trailing in his wake for the rest of the distance.

He entered the final straight in the grounds of Templemore Sports Complex looking as fresh as he had on the starting line before breaking the tape for his second victory in seven days.
Last week the former St. Columb’s College pupil had shown a clean pair of heels to a classy field in the Crawfordsburn 5K Trail Run.

Gregory Roberts battled well to hold on to second place 17 back of his City of Derry club mate and showed signs that he will be a force again over the cross-country courses this winter.

Fifteen-year-old Noel Collins from the Omagh Harriers club surprised some experienced seniors to take third in 34:06.

The women’s race went to form with Shelagh Bodkin continuing her local domination with a smooth victory in 38:59.

Olivia McCullagh took second in 41:34 with Jackie McMonagle another 24 seconds in arrears.
