Dara Furey City of Derry men opened their National Track & Field League campaign impressively with a victory in the Division One match at Navan. While the stars such as Rudi Moore delivered huge points in their individual events it was the overall team spirit epitomised by Dara Furey that saw the Spartans run up an outstanding 124 points total. Furey won the 3000m Steeplechase and took fifth in the Javelin in what was his first appearance in either event. City of Derry now top the division nationally with 124 points, six ahead of Shercock from Cavan, with Leevale third on 109. Strabane are three points back in fourth. Gemma Thompson made a welcome return to leave the City ladies handily poised for an appearance in the eight team final. City lie fifth overall on 94 points as Lisburn lead with 122 and Finn Valley third just six points ahead of their Northwest rivals. |
